Panel: The Importance of Legal Assistance in Refugee Applications

Women in Law Japan is excited to host our third event of the year on Thursday, 1 June 2017.

We have partnered with Japan Association for Refugees (JAR) to present this event on the importance of assistance by legal professionals for refugee status applications to the Japanese government.

This event is open to all genders, provided that they RSVP without fail by following the instructions below. We are expecting a full-house, so please register early to avoid any disappointment. The venue capacity is 100.

Both the keynote speech and the panel discussion will be in English, but look forward to accepting questions from the floor in both English and in Japanese.

本年第3回目となるWomen in Law Japanのイベントを2017年6月1日（木）に開催いたします。

この度、国内において難民支援に取り組む認定NPO法人難民支援協会（JAR）と共催し、法律実務家による難民認定申請手続きに関わる支援の重要性について語ります。

本イベントは女性に限らず、すべての性別の皆様にご参加いただけます。先着順にて登録をさせていただきます。本イベントの定員は100名となります。

基調講演およびパネル・ディスカッションは英語で行いますが、質疑応答は英・和の両言語で受け付けます。

Naosuke Fujita / 藤田直介
Goldman Sachs Japan, managing director and general counsel.
ゴールドマン・サックス証券株式会社マネージング・ディレクター、法務部長。ゴールドマン・サックスのLGBTネットワークのMDアライ。

Naosuke is an MD ally of the Japan Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Network. Naosuke initiated and actively sponsors, in collaboration with NPOs such as Japan Association for Refugees and law firms, legal pro bono by the Legal Department. Probono projects include asylum applications, legal assistance for sexual minorities through the Lawyers for LGBT and Allies Network, asylum applications and support for LGBT and women entrepreneurs.

2015年10月から、日本難民支援協会等のNPOや法律事務所と連携して、法務部による法務プロボノに積極的に取組んでいる。現在までのプロジェクトにはLGBT弁護士支援者ネットワークを通じたLGBTに係る法的支援、難民支援、女性起業家・LGBT起業家の支援などがある。

Naoko Oe / 大江修子

Nagako Oe provides legal advices in the areas of intellectual properties, international transactions and dispute resolutions to the corporate clients, and has also dealt with matters involving refugees, immigration law and international family laws since she was qualified as a lawyer. She heads and internally coordinates TMI’s practice team for JAR’s Pro Bono Project which TMI Associates officially joined as its partner firm in January 2015.

大江修子は、企業クライアントに対しIPや国際取引・紛争の分野でリーガルサービスを提供する傍ら、弁護士登録来、難民・入管法・渉外家事にかかる案件に携わってきました。TMIは2015年1月からJARのプロボノプロジェクトに正式パートナーとして参加していますが、当該プロジェクトにおける所内コーディネーター・責任者の役割も担っています。

Masako Suzuki has devoted her career to refugee and immigrant issues since she registered as a lawyer in 1999. She also founded Lawyers Network for Foreigners (LNF), a network of lawyers who handle cases regarding foreign nationals, in order to improve their legal access.

弁護士登録以来、難民、移民の問題に関わってきました。また、外国人問題を扱う弁護士のネットワーク（LNF）を立ち上げ、外国人のリーガルアクセスの向上に努めています。


Aya Nakai / 中井綾

Aya is a senior legal counsel at investment banking division of Goldman Sachs Japan. Her area of focus includes capital markets and M&A. Aya started to handle asylum cases when she was at Simpson Thacher Bartlett LLP in New York. Inspired by the pro bono experience, she launched a pro bono initiative at Goldman Sachs Japan in 2014 and has represented asylum applicants in coordination with JAR and law firms.

中井綾は、ゴールドマン・サックス証券投資銀行部門のシニア・リーガル・カウンセルとして、資本市場及びM&Aを専門分野としています。ニューヨークのシンプソン・サッチャーで初めて難民認定案件を取扱い、そのプロボノ経験に基づいて、2014年ゴールドマン・サックス証券においてもプロボノ活動を開始、JARや外部法律事務所と協働して難民認定申請を支援しています。

Ms. Eri Ishikawa has been engaged with Japan Association for Refugees since the establishment of the Association in 1999 and has been in current position since 2014. Ms. Eri Ishikawa is mainly engaged in research and advocacy as responsible for external field. She has been serving on the board for Japan Association for Migration Policy studies (JAMPS) and as a part-time lecturer at Sophia University.

1999年の難民支援協会（JAR）設立より参加。2001年より難民支援協会（JAR）に入職。直後よりアフガニスタン難民への支援を担当、日本初の難民認定関連法改正に携わった。2008年1月より事務局長を経て2014年12月に代表理事就任。共著として『難民・強制移動研究のフロンティア』（現代人文社）ほか。移民政策学会理事、上智大学非常勤講師

Rika is a corporate M&A lawyer of over 20 years’ standing who started her career in London, and has focused on cross-border transactions in Tokyo since 2001. Together with like-minded individuals, she was instrumental in launching Women in Law Japan in February 2016, with the aim to provide an active forum where women working in legal functions as lawyers or in-house counsel can come together (regardless of their country of qualification).

別府理佳子はコーポレート・M&Aロイヤーとして20年以上の経験を有し、英国ロンドンにてキャリアをスタートし、2001年より東京を拠点に一貫してクロス・ボーダー案件に携わって参りました。共通の意思を持つ方々と共に本年2月にWomen in Law Japanを立ち上げ、法律業務に従事する弁護士やインハウス・カウンセルの女性（資格国を問わず）が積極的に参加することのできるネットワークを目指しております。
